Tango with Gary

Two dancers, elevated stage.

Continuous Live Performance

2011/2022

This work continued on a loop (without beginning or end) for approximately one hour at dusk, with no audible music. I used borrowed architecture and directed the audience by map to the locations. In each location, I built stages custom to the site to elevated the dancers (me and my teacher, Gary) so that just our legs and lower torsos were visible. By cropping the bodies so they appeared to float above ground, I set out to frame the connectedness between two bodies that is unique to tango and that occurs without communication or memorization.
